Situated near the picturesque fishing village of Ferragudo, you’ll find Praia Grande: a spacious and charming beach that lives up to its name. Unlike many other beaches in the region, which are tucked away behind steep steps, Praia Grande is particularly easy to access and can be reached almost entirely without steps, making it very popular with families with pushchairs or visitors with reduced mobility.

As the beach is situated at the mouth of the River Arade and is sheltered by Portimão’s long harbour breakwaters, there is hardly any swell. The water here is surprisingly calm and slopes gently, allowing children to swim and play to their heart’s content in complete safety.

Praia Grande is also known for its excellent atmosphere and culinary options. Along the wooden boardwalk, you’ll find several popular beach clubs and beach restaurants where you can enjoy a lovely lunch on the terrace, savour some fresh fish or sip a cocktail at sunset.
